History: Born into a Book Merchant's family as a second son, he was neglected by his parents for his older brother. Living in loneliness, he found company in the books that his father had in his shop. After reading almost every book that came through his father's shop, he sought more to learn and discover. When he heard of a local historian recruiting an apprentice, he begged his parents to send him to him. His parents, more caught up in his older brother, sent him to the Historian to get him out of their hair. He earned his grand-mastery in the profession when he was twenty-four, but he still sought more to know. One day, a woman came into the story and offered him an old tome. She inclined him to buy it from her because no one else would. He took at look at the book and found it filled with strange symbols and writings. He bought the book for a modest amount. He searched for a meaning to the symbols, but found non. One day he was bumped into by a traveling carny. The book, which he carrying, dropped onto the ground sending its pages open. He knelt down to the ground as the carny said that he recognized the symbols. He then stood up and asked him if he could translate them for him. The carny objected at first, but with a few pieces of gold he was convinced. At his office, the carny translated the book into words he could understand. After the deed was done, the carny left with the gold and john read the noted. He soon found out that the book was a manual for building warp gates or portals. He first laughed at the concept, not believing in magic. But as he slept on it, he became more trusting of the idea.

The next morning he made a list of what he needed and started to invest his money into the warp gate. He had almost everything, except a power crystal. He wondered where he would get such a powerful item. He journeyed the world for the gem, but found none until he ventured up to a small town in the mountains. He heard of a myth residing in the town about how a miner found a crystal that gave the body warmth when touched, but he soon died after finding it. It was rumored it was buried with his corpse, but the gravestone was removed from the site. He asked around for it, but no one in the town even knew the myth. He returned to his hometown to go back into his business. He gave up on the warp gate and looked for other meaning in his life. However, financial problems gripped him for he had debts for the warp gate. He took in an apprentice to gain some extra cash when a letter arrived. It was a letter from someone in the town up in the mountains. It said that the writer had found the crystal. He offered it to him for fair price. He sent a letter back saying he couldn't afford it. A few week later a box arrived at his doorstep. He took it into his office, making sure to not show his apprentice, and opened it. A warm light touched his face as he looked into the purple crystal. He closed it back and put the cover back on it. He put it on a bookshelf and quickly got back to work on the portal.
